Movie Review by: Gabbie Kempe (copyright2012)
The Faculty (1998): Directed by the unlikely Robert Rodriguez, The Faculty is a classic teen-horror/creature feature, that takes the viewer on a fun-filled roller coaster of scares and laughs as the teens fight back!
Herrington High is your typical, almost too typical, American high school. This makes it the perfect place for a silent alien invasion of course! The faculty and changing, and an unlikely group of personalities are the first to notice. The stereotyped teens are clear from the beginning and create a funny chemistry in the focal group. The sexy (VERY sexy) bad boy, the jock, the bitchy cheerleader, the goth chick, the geeky loner and the goody new girl join forces to survive and conquer the invasion of the extra-terrestrial parasites.
The opening scene is refreshing and sets off a killer 90’s teen-pop sound track which carries the movie through its ups and downs seamlessly! Already you know this is going to be a great movie. This movie is sly, sleek and seductive in its approach and the hilarious varying view points of the main characters clash and make for some very entertaining lines. Throughout the gruesome gloom and doom and kind bubbles of corny humour which make the movie a joy to watch. The plot is quite simple and the story line is very easy to follow which gives the viewer a well earned break from thinking too much and allows us to just strap in for the ride and enjoy!
This is the perfect teen-horror with everything to offer. Sexy heroes, corny humour, sexual tension, jumpy scares, crazy creatures and an awesome sound track! A pleasure to view. Love it!
